Set in 9th century rural Brittany, an impoverished peasant girl's life takes a disturbing turn for the violence. Convinced she must serve Ankou, the spirit of death in local mythology, Helene poisons and murders her mother. For the rest of her life, she travels throughout Brittany searching for her next victim.
