France, 1793. Lawyers and writers have seized power. Their order: embrace our perfect world or face death. But in the farmlands, a country woman joins the resistance. Her husband was captured by government forces. When the capital sends its first squadrons, they are mowed down by the scythes of a farmers' army. As the story unfolds, historians comment.
