Tom Ripley auctions art. In Berlin he meets restorer Jonathan who learns he's got an incurable disease. When a shady mate asks Tom to find a non-pro to do a contract killing he realises Jonathan would be perfect. He gets him to accept, promising security for his family. But things don't work out as planned.
