Jan Schlichtmann is a cynical personal injury attorney more concerned with personal profit than justice. Despite his reputation for only taking on big-money cases which he can settle out of court, Schlichtmann agrees to take on the case of Anne Anderson, a mother whose child was diagnosed with leukaemia after a local well was contaminated.
